ACUPUNCTURE

Why Choose Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a uniquely placed modality. It works with your mind, body and soul and can therefore impact you mentally as well as physically.

The ability to relieve stress at the same time as treating your back pain, for example, can double the impact of your treatment.

Acupuncture uses very fine, sterile, single use needles at specific points on the body. These have been shown to interrupt pain signals, influence the flow of blood and lymph, increase the production of our body’s natural painkillers (endorphins) and more. The language of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can sound alien to us but, in Western terms, acupuncture can release muscle spindle fibres, switch off the fight or flight response and encourage healing.

A traditional acupuncturist will look at your tongue, take your pulses and go through a long list of initial consultation questions based around your health. Using this information, a tailored approach for each individual is developed. The needles are ultra fine, like a cat’s whisker! You will sometimes feel a dull ache or heaviness around a point, just for a few seconds – this is good.; it means we have “activated” the point. Find out more about your treatment here

Other Therapies

In addition to acupuncture, other therapies are often used as part of your treatment. Heat lamps, moxibustion (a warming herb applied to a point) and cupping (suction cups applied to an area or point) are the treatments most often used.
